QualificationsKatie graduated as a dentist in 1995, gaining a Masters degree
in paediatric dentistry (with distinction) in 1999, and a PhD in 2009.
Katie has worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago School of Dentistry, teaching paediatric dentistry, orthodontics and dental public health. She frequently gives lectures to dentists and dental therapists (nurses) both in New Zealand and overseas. Katie has published widely in the academic literature.
Katie was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Young Lecturer Award in 2000, and the New Zealand Dental Association Outstanding Young Dentist Award in 2005.
In 2006, Katie was honoured to be invited to become a fellow of the Association of Dentistry International, in recognition of her continuing service to dentistry in New Zealand and overseas. Katie has also been awarded a membership of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons.
Katie is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, the Australiasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, and the Paediatric Society of New Zealand (ANZSPD).
Katie was the president of the New Zealand branch of ANZSPD from 2006-2009.
Katie is passionate about optimal dental health and quality dentistry for children.
