Katie
Katie graduated as a dentist in 1995, gaining a Masters degree in Paediatric Dentistry (with distinction) in 1999, and a PhD in Dental Public Health in 2009. In 2013 she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Management (Governance).
Lectureships and Research
Katie has worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago School of Dentistry, teaching paediatric dentistry, orthodontics and dental public health. She frequently gives lectures to dentists and oral health therapists both in New Zealand and overseas. Katie has published research in the academic literature.
Awards
Katie was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Young Lecturer Award in 2000, and the New Zealand Dental Association Outstanding Young Dentist Award in 2005. She is an honorary life member of the New Zealand Dental Association.
In 2006, Katie was honoured to become a fellow of the Association of Dentistry International, in recognition of her continuing service to dentistry in New Zealand and overseas. Katie has also been awarded a membership of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons, and a fellowship of the International College of Dentists.
Memberships
Katie is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, and the Australasian Society of Paediatric Dentistry (president of the New Zealand branch 2006-2009).

- Katie was the Dental Approving Officer and Oral Health Advisor to the Midland group of District Health Boards for 9 years.
- Katie has been a member of the Executive and Board of the New Zealand Dental Association for several years, serving 2 years as president.
- She is also a trustee of the Braemar Hospital Charitable Trust and a director of Braemar Hospital.
- Katie was previously a Director of Medical Assurance Society (MAS).
- Katie is passionate about optimal dental health and quality dentistry for children.
